SEQUIM — Although rain threatened the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration and Family Picnic 2005 at Carrie Blake Park on Monday afternoon, the clouds broke after just a sprinkle.
The free event featured games for kids, picnic food, the Happy Tymers Clowns, musical acts and about 20 classic cars.
After the picnic, the Sequim City Band and the Strait Men’s Chorus performed in the new performance area at the park.
There was something for just about everybody at the community picnic, but organizers ran a little short on Independence Day staples like hot dogs and chili.
“We ran to the grocery store, so now we’re good,” said Randy Sturgis, executive director of the Museum and Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.
Beyond expectations
The shortage of food was chalked up to exceeding the number of people expected.
Organizers were counting on about 300 people, but more than 500 actually came, Sturgis said.
