SEQUIM — Police detectives are searching for a woman who passed $200 in counterfeit money Monday morning at J.C. Penney Co. Inc., 609 W. Washington St.
The woman, thought to be in her 50s, purchased merchandise from the junior clothing department and paid with 10 $20 bills which later were deemed “suspicious” by the sales clerk, said store manager Ron Farquhar.
“The bills felt funny to our clerk,” Farquhar said. “Then she noticed the (serial) numbers on four of them were all the same.”
Because none of the merchandise was on sale, and clerks say the woman took little time in selecting it, Farquhar said he believes she may have been planning to take it to the J.C. Penney store at Kitsap Mall in Silverdale and return it for cash.
Sequim police asked Farquhar to notify that store, and others in the region.
