SEQUIM — A fragrant purple flower with a wide variety of uses is expected to give Clallam County’s economy a shot in the arm this weekend as the sixth annual Celebrate Lavender Festival kicks off.
This year’s festival has been expanded to three days as its popularity with out-of-town visitors continues to grow.
“It’s a healthy boost to our economy,” said Marny Hannan, Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce executive director.
Festival Director Pat McCauley estimated 20,000 people visited the 2001 festival using a formula based on the number of buttons that were purchased.
The buttons are required for entrance to lavender farms — 9,000 were sold last year.
