SEQUIM — Opening or even building regional shopping centers in the city probably isn’t going to happen in the near future.
That’s one of the messages heard Wednesday night as Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce members discussed regional shopping during a two-hour meeting at Guy Cole Convention Center.
There was support and opposition from the audience of about 70 attending the meeting.
The audience also received reassurance the only proposed shopping center won’t look like the submitted design if it’s approved by the city.
That shopping center was proposed by a Tacoma developer.
It was previously ruled incomplete by city officials.
The developer, Christopher Kang, has said he wants to build an 800,000-square-foot center consisting of 12 buildings on the east end of the city.
Kang also said he and tenants would pay the $2 million cost of completing the Simdars Interchange with U.S. Highway 101.
