SEQUIM — A bald eagle that was thought to be recovering from a gunshot wound has succumbed to its injuries.
Jaye Moore, director of the Northwest Raptor Center, said the eagle named Big Brother couldn’t overcome the infection and trauma caused when a rifle bullet tore away parts of its head and beak in early December.
“He just wasn’t strong enough to pull out of it,” Moore said.
“I was heartbroken. I felt really bad for him. They’re so regal.”
Big Brother measured about 3 feet from head to tail and weighed about 8 pounds.
Moore said the eagle died between tube feedings, in the middle of the night about two weeks ago — not long after the bird was featured on the front page of the PDN on Dec. 15.
