SEQUIM — In a 4-2 vote Monday night, the City Council named Patricia Kasovia Schmitt as the successor to former Councilman Dave Anders, who resigned last month.
Schmitt, a retired critical care nurse and university instructor, and Don Hall, a retired quality assurance manager, were the only candidates for the position, which expires next year.
Councilman Bill Thomas nominated Schmitt for appointment, but after Monday night’s meeting said he didn’t make his choice until just before it was time to vote.
Council members spent about 35 minutes in executive session discussing the candidates’ qualifications.
“I’m relieved that it’s over,” Schmitt said after taking the oath of office and being seated with the council long enough to vote on adjournment.
“Don is very well-qualified.”
