SEQUIM — Anyone interested in filling the District 5 vacancy on the Sequim School Board has until Friday to submit an application to the school district.
Applicants will be interviewed in a public forum at 7 p.m. Monday, after which board members may appoint someone to the slot. To keep the position, the appointee will have to file as a candidate in the November election.
The vacancy was created when Suzi Schmidt suddenly resigned her seat June 6, citing an inability to accomplish “goals and expectations [I set] for myself as a school board director.”‘
District 5 encompasses Carlsborg, Agnew and the area around Blue Mountain and Gehrke roads.
By Tuesday, one person had submitted an application.
There will be three school board positions on the November ballot — District 5 and the seats of Dave Blake (District 1) and Elna Kawal (District 3).
