SEQUIM — The Sequim School District is requesting public comment on its search for a new superintendent to succeed Patrick Kelly Shea.
Shea, who has served as Sequim superintendent since March 23, 2012, will leave June 30 to become superintendent of the East Valley School District in Spokane Valley.
“We are seeking input from the community,” said Patsene Dashiell, Sequim School District spokeswoman.
“We have an online survey set up on the district website where people can enter their comments.”
The survey will be available online at www.sequim.k12.wa.us through Monday. The survey can be found on the lefthand side of the home page under “Announcements.”
Also, a page on the district website is reserved for providing updates about the superintendent search. The district also will update its Facebook page.
A new superintendent is expected to be hired in mid-May and assume the post July 1.
Public input
Dashiell said district officials feel it is essential to get the community at large involved in the process so their opinions and requests can be considered during the hiring process.
“It is a pretty significant happening for our district and for our city, so I do think it is important for our parents and community members to come and take part in the process as much as they can and get informed about the issues and the candidates,” she said.
McPherson & Jacobson LLC — a private firm based out of Omaha, Neb. — is leading the search for a new superintendent on behalf of the district.
Application forms for the job, available at www.macnjake.com, are being collected through April 16.
