SEQUIM — The city’s second roundabout, at the intersection of Sequim Avenue and Old Olympic Highway, is largely done.
It is in working condition, and landscaping and striping are scheduled to be complete by mid-August.
It is another example of the enthusiasm of Sequim officials for “traffic calming” devices, but the decision to install roundabouts, or traffic circles, at two busy intersections has not been universally popular.
In the Peninsula Daily News’ Rants and Raves and Letters to the Editor sections, people deride roundabouts with terms like “pretzel” and “doughnut,” and said the city is “messing up our roads.”
Critics also predict more congestion and accidents.
City officials, however, say that the experience with the roundabout at the intersection of River Road and West Washington Street proves just the opposite.
