SEQUIM — Volunteer fireman Mike McAneny faces the second in a series of surgeries today to help heal burns he suffered when a gasoline can exploded Feb. 16 at his home on South Second Avenue.
McAneny’s wife, Lisa, said doctors will graft skin onto both legs and his right arm today at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Mrs. McAneny said doctors will work on his legs first and then on his arm as time allows.
Donor skin for the graft will come from unburned areas on McAneny’s body.
If the surgery can’t be completed today, doctors say they’ll wait until the donor areas have healed before conducting another surgery.
Mrs. McAneny said her husband still has a tube to assist him in breathing.
He remains sedated, she said.
McAneny developed pneumonia about 10 days ago, but his wife says his lungs are slowly improving.
