SEQUIM — The eighth annual Lavender Festival blooms on this weekend under sunny skies today and Saturday, and the possibility of showers on Sunday.
“You can’t have a festival in the Northwest and not anticipate the possibility of rain,” festival Executive Director Scott Nagel said.
Nagel is in his first year at the helm of Sequim’s mega-event which has for seven years drawn lavender-lovers from across the country.
This year should be no exception, and Nagel — a Seattle veteran in events planning hired last fall to take over for former director Pat McCauley — practically dared the weather to cooperate.
“I didn’t come to Sequim to have it rain on a festival,” Nagel joked.

Few farmers remember a rainy Lavender Festival in recent years, although most say they find it difficult to remember much about past events at all because they’re so busy planning for the next one.
Their planning has taken on new meaning this year –a record number of early guests has flocked to the fields, hoping to avoid crowds.
