SEQUIM — Three young adults were killed and three others were injured on New Year’s Eve when the sedan in which they were crammed ran off Palo Alto Road and rolled 100 feet.
The crash was the deadliest in the state on New Year’s Eve, according to Washington State Patrol dispatchers in Bremerton.
The driver, who survived, is being investigated for a possible charge of vehicular homicide, the State Patrol said.
Crushed beer bottles were strewn around the wreck, flung from the car as it rolled to a stop, witnesses said.
The two men and a woman killed were catapulted through the air.
None of them had been wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.
Pronounced dead at the scene were Paul Anthony Boynton, 22, Heather L. Holden, 19, and Aaron William Gambell, 19, all of Sequim.
Taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles were driver Mary K. Kniskern, 26, of Sequim, Courtney P. West, 20, of Port Angeles, and Stuart G. Bury, 20, of Sequim.
