SEQUIM — A public forum today will preview proposed plans for downtown Sequim.
The forum will begin at 2 p.m. in the American Legion Hall, 107 E. Prairie St.
A planning and public works session, also open to the public, will follow the presentation.
The preview is a prelude to presentation of the plan to Sequim City Council at its Monday meeting.
The session will start at 6 p.m. in the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.
The council may accept or reject the plan at its meeting two weeks later.
The proposal — dubbed the Town Center Sub-Area Plan — received approval from the city Planning Commission on Tuesday.
The long-range vision designates the Town Center between Brown Road and Fifth Avenue and from Fir to Hammond streets, with a cross-shaped commercial zone at its center, said Frank Needham, city capital projects manager.
Between Sunnyside and Second avenues, the area bulges out to Fir Street on the north and Hemlock to the south.
High-density residential buildings would anchor the plan’s four corners.
The plan also calls for new buildings three to five stories high and what the city calls “workforce housing” — units affordable to average-income families.
