SEQUIM — A move to halt construction of a rest stop near the Simdars Road-U.S. Highway 101 interchange remains alive even though the City Council reached consensus earlier this week to continue to urge development of the area.
Five of the council’s seven members support the state Department of Transportation plan to build a rest area.
Two council members — Patricia Kasovia-Schmitt and Bill Huizinga — oppose the rest area.
Huizinga said Thursday he will continue to speak out against the project whenever it comes up.
“I’m probably swimming upstream, but I’m not going to cave in,” Huizinga said Thursday.
