SEQUIM — A six-year maintenance and operations levy for the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center will be on the ballot during the September primary election.
The replacement levy amount of 12 cents per $1,000 of assessed property valuation is two cents lower than the current tax rate.
Under the replacement levy, a person owning property valued at $100,000 would pay $12 per year.
The same property owner currently pays $14 per year.
Aquatic center board Chairman William E. Black said the reduced levy amount will generate the same revenue as the current rate — about $264,000 per year.
The revenue will remain the same because property values have increased.
The aquatic center is the only entity operated by Clallam County Parks and Recreation District No. 1, which covers the same area as the Sequim School District in eastern Clallam County.
Maintenance and operations levy money accounts for 26 percent of the annual budget of the fitness and recreation center at 610 N. Fifth Ave.
The rest of the aquatic center’s funding comes from user fees.
