SEQUIM — The City Council unanimously selected Councilman Walt Schubert as the next mayor Wednesday.
Schubert, 61, replaces Bill Thomas, who has served as mayor for the last six years.
“I didn’t seek the position, but my feeling is that if it was a unanimous consensus, I’d do it,” Schubert said. “I’m honored.”
Thomas, who stepped down, said it was time for a new face after six years as mayor.
“It’s probably been one of the most gratifying things I’ve ever done, and I’ve enjoyed it immensely,” Thomas said. “But six years is enough.”
