SEQUIM — “It goes down smoooooth!”
That phrase was heard over and over again last weekend as people described the taste of lavender in everything from cookies to cheesecake to lemonade to margaritas.
Thousands of visitors attended the fifth annual Celebrate Lavender Festival on Saturday and Sunday, putting up at times with some clouds and unseasonable drizzle.
Gate volunteers at the eight lavender farms reported steady traffic, and vacant parking spaces were a rarity within a five-block radius of the downtown street fair.
Many of the festival-goers ooohed-and-aaahed over the purple lavender fields and sampled foods and beverages accentuated with the herb.
“It was a sweet, aromatic cookie,” said Rick Dietz of Havertown, Pa., describing the lavender chocolate chip cookie he sampled at Lost Mountain Lavender Farm.
Dietz and his wife, Nicole, are on a tour of the Pacific Northwest.
