SEQUIM – Sequim School District Superintendent Garn Christensen is among three finalists for the superintendent position in the Eastmont School District in Central Washington’s Wenatchee Valley.
Christensen, who came to Sequim in 2003, will travel to the Eastmont district this week for what will probably be his final interview for the position.
“I enjoy it here,” Christensen said Tuesday.
“This is not because I don’t like Sequim.”
But he became interested several years ago in Eastmont, which has some 5,200 students on 10 campuses.
The Sequim district has fewer than 3,000 students at five schools.
Christensen, 43, who has three grown children, said that a move now to a more populous school district is in line with his career goals.
Sequim School Board President Sarah Bedinger said that the board has been “really happy with Garn’s performance.
“He’s given our district a focus we hadn’t had in a long time . . . we’ve got strategic plans and building plans, and everything is aligned with the goals of the district.
“We’re hoping we can keep Garn here.”
