Shelton motorcyclist hurt in Jefferson County wreck

PORT TOWNSEND — A motorcyclist was in serious condition in intensive care at a Seattle hospital Tuesday afternoon, a day after he lost control of his motorcycle at the U.S. Highway 101/state Highway 104 interchange early Monday evening.

Richard B. Shaner, 49, of Shelton was riding a black 1986 Kawasaki EN450A motorcycle westbound at 6:50 p.m. on state Highway 104 at the U.S. Highway 101 interchange when he attempted to take the ramp to southbound U.S. Highway 101 at a speed too fast for the curve, Trooper James Decker said in a report.

Shaner’s motorcycle left the road to the right, and he was ejected from the bike, Decker said.

He added that no other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Shaner was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in serious condition in the intensive care unit Tuesday afternoon.

Shaner was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck, according to the State Patrol.

He will be charged with “speed too fast for conditions,” the report said.
