Shrimp a big deal this weekend in Brinnon

BRINNON — Shrimp is a big deal this weekend.

Sponsored by Friends of Brinnon, the ninth annual ShrimpFest takes place Saturday and Sunday just south of milepost 306 along U.S. Highway 101.

But a spaghetti feed kicks off the weekend of fun tonight in town.

Spaghetti will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brinnon Senior Center.

On Saturday, the community switches gears, and shrimp becomes the focal point of weekend activities.

Last year, more than 7,000 people flocked to town for the event marking the importance — and flavor — of shrimp.

That’s more than seven times the number of people who live in this small community on Hood Canal.

There were so many people tasting shrimp that vendors sold out of the delectable seafood.

Because of last year’s turnout, this year’s event is three times larger, co-organizer Karen Sickel said Thursday, noting 90 booths make up this year’s festival.

“We learned some lessons last year — we definitely need more shrimp,” Sickel said, adding:

“I don’t think we’ll have a problem running out.
