A huge mudslide blocked U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent and floodwaters made state Highway 112 impassable near Pysht Thursday night, severing all connections between central and western Clallam County.
A day of heavy rainfall pushed rivers and creeks to their banks and made hillsides unstable.
A log truck traveling around Lake Crescent on Highway 101 was pushed into the water when the slide roared down the hillside at Milepost 229.
The Lake Crescent slide was said to be 130 feet wide and 15 feet deep.
The state Department of Transportation said the slide covers all of the highway and goes 60 feet into the lake.
The driver, according to Olympic National Park seasonal ranger Anthony Graham, escaped through a window and swam to shore.
