PORT ANGELES — A small fire broke out in an office at K Ply’s plywood processing plant Saturday afternoon, causing about $1,000 in damage, the Port Angeles Fire Department reported.
The first report of the fire came from a passing motorist at about 2:30 p.m.
The caller saw water pouring out of a second-story window at the plant at 439 Marine Drive.
A wall heater in an office had shorted and started a fire, said shift Capt. Duke Moroz.
Heat from the fire set off four sprinkler heads in the room that poured 52 gallons of water per minute into the office, which extinguished the fire and then went on to flood the office, Moroz said.
Fortunately, the water did not cause very much damage, and most of it drained out of the office, Moroz said.
“It really shouldn’t be much of a problem,” he said.
