Some candidates will automatically advance to Nov. 6

Candidates in races in which only two people filed will automatically advance to the general election regardless of primary election results.

They include Republican Geoff Masci, 64, a former mayor of Port Townsend who is running for the District 1 county commissioner seat held by Phil Johnson, 66, of Port Townsend.

They also include Ted Simpson and Cindy Kelly, who are running for the Clallam County, Public Utility District.

Also included

Also automatically advancing to the November ballot are candidates in two races for the 24th District, which covers Clallam and Jefferson counties and about half of Grays Harbor County.

They are:

â–  Five-term 24th District state Sen. Jim Hargrove of Hoquiam, a Democrat, who is challenged by Larry Carter of Port Ludlow, an independent.

â–  Rep. Steve Tharinger of Sequim, a one-term 24th District Democrat, who is challenged by Republican Steve Gale of Sequim.

In the Supreme Court race for Position 8, Bruce O. Danielson and Steve Gonzales will advance to the November ballot.

Unopposed on the primary ballot are Rep. Kevin Van De Wege of Sequim, three-term 24th District Democrat; state Treasurer Jim McIntire; Clallam County Position 1 Superior Court Judge George L. Wood; Clallam County Position 2 Judge S. Brooke Taylor; and Jefferson County Public Utility District Commissioner Wayne King.
