Special DUI holiday patrols net 27 arrests in Jefferson, Clallam counties

Twenty-seven motorists were arrested for investigation of driving under the influence during special holiday patrols of the North Olympic Peninsula.

The state Traffic Safety Commission said that statewide, 2,723 drivers were arrested during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI enforcement campaign conducted from Nov. 27 through Jan. 1.

Last year in Clallam and Jefferson counties during the same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 38 people for investigation of DUI.

Participating in extra patrols during the holidays were the Port Angeles, Port Townsend and Sequim police departments; the Clallam and Jefferson County sheriff’s offices; and the State Patrol.

They were supported by the Clallam County DUI Target Zero Task Force and the Jefferson County Traffic Safety Task Force. Extra patrols were funded by a state Traffic Safety Commission grant.

Extra patrols are part of Target Zero, a program aiming to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Washington by 2030.
