EVERETT — The Pirates (4-1, 10-5) dominated the second half after an unbalanced game in the first half.

The Pirates led the Trojans 38-20 at the break but ended up coming out strong and outscoring Everett 47-10 in the second half with strong performances by Tia Mason, Taylor Larson and Jasmine Yarde.

The Trojans fell to 2-2, 3-9.

The real story of the game was on the boards where Peninsula out-rebounded Everett 74-34.

The Pirates had four players earn double-doubles, led by Larson with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Mason was right behind with 21 points and 12 boards while Yarde netted 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Jesse Ellis also chipped in 10 points while Karli Brakes added seven assists.

Yarde also had six steals.

“I thought we played really low intensity defense in the first half,” coach Alison Crumb said.

“I told the girls we need to play our basketball, and in the second half they came out firing.”

Crumb picked Mason as the player of the game.

“She gave us a spark that fed our enthusiasm, and it was a great performance to watch,” Crumb said.

“Again, we had a balanced effort with everyone on our team scoring with the exception of Raquel Young, who is out with an ankle injury.”

The Pirates have a bye today and next will host Shoreline at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
