LYNDEN — Two North Olympic Babe Ruth softball teams are off and running at the regional championships.

Both the 14U and 12U teams picked up important wins during the first day of action Thursday.

The 14U Port Angeles squad ripped Twin Falls, Idaho, 11-1 in 4 ½ innings.

“We were playing well today,” coach Tom Kuch said.

“The girls are focused and ready to play,” he said. “This was a good way to start the tournament.”

Olympic continues pool play today, taking on Mount Baker at 11 a.m. and Upper Rogue, Ore., at 3 p.m.

Port Angeles had 11 runs with six hits and no errors against Twin Falls. The area team also earned nine walks.

Bailey Dills (1-0) went the distance on the mound for North Olympic, five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking only two.

Lauren Aguirre smacked a double for Port Angeles while Tori Kuch, Melanie Fors, Hailey Love, Jena Chamberlain and Dills all had a hit each.

Olympic 12U 15, Roseburg, Ore., 0

The 12U Port Angeles team had an even easier time against Roseburg.

It took only four innings for North Olympic to get the win. Port Angeles had 15 hits.

Roseburg, meanwhile, was held to three hits.

Sarah Steinman (1-0) started the game on the mound and went three innings.

She fanned five batters and allowed just two hits.

Dusty Lucas pitched the final inning, striking out one.

Sarah Steinman was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a triple, double and five RBIs. Steinman was a home run short of going the cycle.

Ralena Blackcrow and McKayla Cox both went 2-for-2 at bat.

Blackcrow had a triple and two RBIs while Cox earned three RBIs.

“It was a great start for us,” coach Randy Steinman said.

Sarah Steinman was named MVP for the game.

Port Angeles continues pool play today with a game against Meridian, Idaho, at 9 a.m. and a contest against Twin Falls, Idaho at 3 p.m.
