OLYMPIA — Education, health programs and human services will share the pain of deep spending cuts under a new state budget that spends about $31.4 billion in state money over the next two years.
House and Senate negotiators released details of their budget plan tonight, with just three full days left in the legislative session. They planned to begin debating the budget Friday.
Nearly $800 million was cut from K-12 education, including suspending two voter-approved initiatives. More than 9,000 slots for college students are eliminated.
A program that gives cash and medical care to disabled people who can’t work would be preserved.
