NEAH BAY — A massive slide has closed both lanes of state Highway 112 at Milepost 5 between Neah Bay and Sekiu.
A state Department of Transportation crew may be able to open one lane by Friday, said Larry Adams, maintenance supervisor of the Forks-Sekiu area, this morning.
He estimated that between 3,500 and 4,000 cubic yards of mud and debris cover the roadway in the slide reported at 4:46 p.m. Wednesday.
Nearly 100 feet of guardrail was damaged in the slide.
The slide continued moving through the night.
Crews will have to move several trees near the slide, because of safety concerns, before they can begin clearing the road.
Kelly Stowe, Transportation spokeswoman, said that the Makah tribe is providing a detour via a logging road that is for local traffic only.
