State Patrol amends report on red-light run

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman that the State Patrol originally said had run a red light and injured another woman was actually hit and injured by another driver, the agency said.

The State Patrol on Friday revised its account of a two-car wreck on U.S. Highway 101 at Mount Pleasant Road that sent a Port Angeles woman to the hospital Wednesday.

Robyn L. Macomber, 24, was injured in the wreck and taken by ambulance to Olympic Medical Center, where she had been treated and released by Thursday.

Charlene C. Troemel, 77, also of Port Angeles, was unhurt after she ran a red light at the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and Highway 101 and struck Macomber’s car, the State Patrol said Friday.

The State Patrol had initially reported that Macomber had run the red light.

“It was our malfunction. I don’t know what happened,” Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman, said Friday.

Troemel was waiting at a red light in the left turn lane of Mount Pleasant Road when she proceeded through the light into the intersection at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, the State Patrol said.

Her 2010 Hyundai Elantra struck Macomber’s 2000 black Ford Taurus.

Macomber was traveling west on Highway 101 at Mount Pleasant Road, the State Patrol said.

The State Patrol said Troemel is expected to be cited for failing to obey a traffic control device.

Sequim staff plan to send a proposal to the state this month to potentially fund sewer and water lift stations on West Sequim Bay Road using new developments’ property taxes through a Tax Increment Area by Sequim Bay in a 363-acre area. It would require the city to prove that developments in the area wouldn’t happen without the stations. The city council also would have to approve it. (Matthew Nash/Olympic Peninsula News Group)
