State Patrol: Car hits bus, driver sent to hospital

SHINE — A collision between a car and a bus sent one driver to a hospital.

Evan W. Pitcher, 31, of Bremerton, was transported to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale after the 6 p.m. Thursday wreck. His condition was not available on Saturday.

Troopers cited Pitcher with speeding.

The State Patrol said that Pitcher was westbound from the Hood Canal Bridge on state Highway 104 when the Gillig bus, which had been stopped at a stop sign on Paradise Road, cleared the intersection.

Troopers said that Pitcher “accelerated rapidly and struck the front” of the bus, lost control, veered across the intersection sideways into the eastbound ditch and rolled, coming to rest on its top.

The 55-year-old bus driver from Port Hadlock was not hurt, the State Patrol said in its memo.

Pitcher’s car was completely destroyed while the bus had reportable damage, the State Patrol said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Drugs or alcohol were not involved, troopers said.
