The numbers released on the latest results of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning don’t add up, say both state and North Olympic Peninsula school district officials.
The state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction will re-figure the percentages of students eligible to graduate based on their performance on the WASL, Nathan Olson, media specialist manager for the office said late Tuesday.
He said the office hoped to have the numbers revised by June 16.
The class of 2008 is the first class of students facing the test as a graduation requirement.
The state announced early Tuesday morning that 91.4 percent of students in the state have passed both the reading and writing portions or fulfilled alternative requirements.
“It’s just a beautiful victory,” state Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson said.
