JOYCE — As early as Monday, residents and motorists will see state crews spraying an herbicide mixture along the shoulder edges of state Highway 112.
The state Department of Transportation said that the herbicide mixture is environmentally-friendly and aquatically approved.
It has been used to treat overgrown vegetation under the guardrail along the entire state Highway 112 corridor as well as along shoulders east of Joyce.
If vegetation buildup is not managed, it “can result in drainage issues and increased maintenance concerns along a highway,” said Steve Russell, Transportation’s Port Angeles maintenance superintendent, in an email.
Aquatically-approved herbicides are Aqua Neat, Polaris and Agri-Dex, according to the state plan at https://tinyurl.com/PDN-roadsideweeds.
Throughout the summer, crews will supplement this effort by mowing and trimming areas where vegetation growth can restrict motorists’ line of sight or obscure highway signs.
The work will occur during daylight hours and will be a moving operation.
Motorists may encounter short delays at the work site.
