PORT TOWNSEND — When it comes to dependency on tourism in the state, Jefferson County is above average.
“It is one of the fastest-growing in terms of growth in travel spending,” said Marsha Massey, Washington Tourism Commission executive director.
Massey addressed about 50 attending Monday’s Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Fort Worden State Park.
She said Jefferson County ranked among the top six growth counties when it comes to tourism.
“It works in your favor to be so close to Seattle,” she said.
Although nothing was in the year-old agency’s mandate, she said she hopes the Tourism Commission becomes more engaged in Washington State Ferries issues.
“They are in and of themselves a tourist attraction,” she said.
