PORT ANGELES — Accused double-murderer Darold Stenson of Sequim was ordered this morning by Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams to be held without bail as he awaits a second trial.
Stenson’s 1994 death-penalty conviction was overturned May 10 by the state Supreme Court.
Stenson, 59, was charged earlier this week with two counts of aggravated murder, the same charges on which he was convicted and sentenced to death in connection with the 1993 shooting deaths of his wife, Denise, and his business partner, Frank Hoerner, at the Stensons’ bird farm in Sequim.
Williams also appointed Kitsap County lawyer Roger Hunko to represent Stenson, who was transported Thursday from the state penitentiary at Walla Walla to the Clallam County jail.
Stenson’s next court appearance is 1 p.m. Tuesday, when further hearings will be scheduled, county Prosecuting Attorney Deb Kelly said.
Williams is retiring, so he will not preside over Stenson’s upcoming trial, Williams told Stenson at hearing.
