PORT LUDLOW — The Columbia Choirs of Metropolitan Seattle, an internationally known group of singers, are sending two ensembles forth for a candlelight concert at the Bay Club this afternoon (Sunday).
The two are the Vocal Ensemble and the Concord Chamber Choir, and they will lift their voices at 4 p.m. in this Port Ludlow Arts Council presentation.
Sacred and secular
Doors will open at 3 p.m. at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place, and the afternoon will bring a varied program of sacred and secular songs, poetry readings and even some invitations to the audience to sing along.
Tickets are $24 via www.PortLudlowArtsCouncil.com or the Bay Club at 360-437-2208.
Steve Stevens, the director of these choirs, has toured the world with them, from Mexico to Japan; the choirs have sung for members of the British royal family and for the pope.
The first half of Sunday’s concert will begin with the Vocal Ensemble’s gospel-style songs of the season.
Then the Concord Chamber Choir will finish with pieces including “O Magnum Mysterium” by Tomas Luis de Victoria, a new carol by the British composer John Rutter and Stephen Paulus’ “Three Nativity Carols.”
Good-time music
The second half promises good-time music of the season in both pop and jazz styles, with an audience sing-along mixed in.
The Vocal Ensemble, made up of singers from ninth grade through college age, has Merry Jensen as its accompanist. The Concord Chamber Choir, an auditioned group for adults, tours with oboist Robert Knoll, pianist Aaron Goldstein and cellist Julie Reed.
Also at the Bay Club on Sunday, Port Ludlow resident Reg Kleweno will display his sterling and gemstone jewelry. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy his art and choose their seats.
