Jefferson General Hospital commissioners say they are looking to add new services to help keep the hospital on solid financial ground.
Commissioners and administrators of the Port Townsend hospital have spent the last several months discussing new services — from targeting women who would otherwise choose to have home births to an expansion of its hospice program — to boost its bottom line.
“We’re excellent in financial shape in comparison to other rural hospitals,” Commissioner Jill Buhler said Saturday. “But we are in a position where if we don’t do something right now we can’t maintain this level of solidity.”
Five commissioners, who set policy for the district and make final decisions when spending surpasses $50,000 on a single item, meet twice a month on Wednesdays with key hospital administrators.
