Near massive stacks of fresh-dried lumber at the Portac mill in Forks, two young men quietly labor to reshape what they see as an aerospace industry stuck in neutral.
Mathematician Phillip Storm and mechanical engineer Eric Meier envision a commercial future in space; an affordable one that reflects their can-do spirit.
To put the spurs to what they see as the bureaucrat-bloated, catastrophe-shy space industry, the partners in Space Transport Corp. want to send client-owned satellites into space using rockets and satellite transport systems they build at the industrial park.
“We think we can cut away some of the excess in aerospace,” said company vice president Meier, sitting with president Storm in their spartan office, complete with folding chairs.
