Shawna Small walks on Marine Drive in Port Angeles past a large Ukrainian flag on the outside of Mister Buds, which owner Malik Atwater put up recently along with the U.S. flag he has flown for many years.
The flag was hand-sewn by Vivian Wai, Atwater’s wife, after the two discussed how to support the Ukrainians as they fight against the invasion of the country launched by Russia on Feb. 24.
“We felt helpless to do anything to help,” Atwater said, adding that it was Wai who came up with the idea.
