PORT ANGELES — As six people graduated from adult drug court Thursday and dozens more watched from the audience, a familiar face returning to her former haunts congratulated them on their achievements.
“You’re the real heroes of the day,” state Supreme Court Justice Susan Owens, formerly a Clallam County District Court judge in Forks, told them. “I know you are not taking the easy way out.”
Owens took her place on the Supreme Court in January 2001 after 22 years in Forks, but returned to Clallam County on Thursday to address drug court graduates and some of her former colleagues.
As a career judge, Owens said she has heard her share of success stories, and the stories of the Clallam County drug court graduates — some who never thought they would be clean and healthy — are no different.
“That is success for all judges, I can tell you that,” Owens said.
