Suspected killer of woman, 18, captured in Forks

FORKS — The suspect in the early Sunday morning stabbing death of an 18-year-old woman was arrested without incident at about 11:20 a.m. today on Merchants Road, Forks Police Department spokesman Ed Klahn said this morning.

The arrest of Moises Ramirez Matias, 25, who also uses the alias Dario Ramirez Moises, was based on information received from the public, Klahn said.

Ramirez Matias, the target of a nationwide manhunt in the death of Laranda Konopaski, was transported to the Forks jail after his arrest, Klahn said.

The U.S. Border Patrol will put a detainer on Ramirez Martinez — believed to be Guatemalan — before he appears before Clallam County Superior Court on a charge of first-degree premeditated murder-domestic violence, Klahn said.

The Border Patrol was in the process of determining his legal status this morning, agency spokesman Richard Sinks said.

The couple’s 4-year-old child was in the house at the time of the killing and called 9-1-1 to alert the authorities.

The girl, who was not injured, is in the custody of state authorities.

Ramirez Matias’ arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the Forks Police Department and Clallam County Sheriff’s Department.
