SUVs collide at highway junction; 3 injured

PORT ANGELES — A two-vehicle collision at the junction of state Highway 112 and U.S. Highway 101 resulted in injuries to three people Sunday afternoon.

Irvin A. Sonnabend, 70, of Port Angeles; Jennifer R. Pearson, 31, of Sekiu; and Samantha R. Logan, 21, of Neah Bay were taken by ambulance to Olympic Medical Center after the 12:20 p.m. wreck that destroyed both sport utility vehicles.

Sonnabend and Logan were treated and released, and Pearson was in stable condition late Sunday afternoon, according to an OMC spokesman.

The wreck occurred when Logan, who was driving a 1990 Dodge Durango, attempted to turn left from Highway 112 onto eastbound Highway 101, according to a report by State Trooper Eric Ellefson.

Logan turned into the path of Sonnabend, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee westbound on Highway 101.

The SUVs collided in the westbound lane of Highway 101, Ellefson said.

Pearson was a passenger in the Dodge, he said.

Logan was cited for failure to yield, according to the report.
