Cold dips and hikes are among the activities offered to those who want to start 2014 outdoors today.
Four “polar bear” plunges are planned on the North Olympic Peninsula.
They are in:
■ Nordland — 20th annual Nordland Polar Bear Dip, at dock across from Nordland General Store at 7180 Flagler Road on Marrowstone Island, noon.
■ Port Angeles — 26th annual Polar Bear Dip, Hollywood Beach, 10 a.m.
■ Neah Bay — 12th annual Neah Bay Plunge, behind the Neah Bay Senior Center, 341 Bay View Ave., noon.
■ Eighth annual Lake Pleasant Polar Bear Plunge, Lake Pleasant Community Beach County Park, off U.S. Highway 101 in Beaver, 10 miles north of Forks, 10 a.m.
Other ways to enjoy the first day of the year include:
■ The Second annual Jefferson Trails Coalition New Years Discovery 10K Run/Walk, Discovery Bay Golf Course, 7401 Cape George Road, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
