PORT TOWNSEND — Team Jefferson’s job is to create avenues to economic development in Jefferson County.
“We’re not going to create jobs . . . businesses create jobs,” said Katherine Baril, WSU Port Hadlock Extension executive director, who supervises the county’s contracted economic development agency.
Baril addressed the Jefferson County commissioners on Monday, detailing Team Jefferson’s progress over the past year.
Team Jefferson promotes community reinvestment, attracting and keeping young workers in the area, energizing local entrepreneurs and building community leadership, Baril said.
The Jefferson County commissioners and state Department of Community Trade and Economic Development contracted Team Jefferson more than a year ago and are combining grants of about $80,000 to run the organization based on the WSU campus at Shold Business Park in Port Hadlock.
