State Rep. Steve Tharinger used the Clallam County Democratic Convention over the weekend to announce his candidacy for re-election for a second term to the House of Representatives in Olympia.

Tharinger is one of three lawmakers from the 24th District, which includes all of Clallam and Jefferson Counties and part of Grays Harbor County. The other two, Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam, and Tharinger’s Democratic seat mate, Kevin Van De Wege, are expected to announce their plans before official filing begins later this month.

Tharinger was first elected in 2010 and served a year as both a state representative and a Clallam County commissioner. He didn’t seek re-election as a county commissioner last year.

Both Tharinger and Van De Wege live in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.
