PORT ANGELES — The steady beat of drumming filled the Lower Elwha Tribal Center gymnasium Saturday as the Elwha River Powwow entered its second day Saturday.
Dozens of dancers from tribes around the region took the spotlight as they added their personal interpretations of the music.
The event was presented by the Longhouse Association, a national organization with the goal educating people about native culture.
Included at the powwow are vendors of native arts and artisans showing off their skills in making traditional crafts.
Military veterans were honored through a special dance during Saturday’s festivities.
The event continues today with a grand entry planned for about noon. Admission is free.
The tribal center is located at 2851 Lower Elwha Road, west of Port Angeles.
