PORT ANGELES — Port of Port Angeles commissioners have unanimously selected three local men to interview for a vacancy on the Port Angeles Harbor-Works Development Authority board.
Bart Irwin, one of the port’s appointees, resigned in December, citing travel plans that conflicted with major decisions of the board.
The commissioners requested that Grant Munro, a former Port Angeles city councilman, forester Harry Bell and businessman Kaj Ahlburg, all of Port Angeles, give a short presentation at the Jan. 25 regular meeting which begins at 9:30 a.m.
“It isn’t an interview per se,” said John Calhoun, port commissioner.
“We just want to hear why they want to be on the board.”
The city created Harbor-Works, with support from the Port of Port Angeles, to acquire Rayonier Inc.’s vacant pulp mill site on the Port Angeles waterfront, direct the property’s redevelopment and assist in its environmental cleanup.
As part of the agreement with the city, the port nominates two of the board members and the City Council finalizes the decision.
One of the city’s appointees, Karen McCormick, also stepped down this year and was replaced by former mayor Jim Hallett in October.
