PORT ANGELES — Three California women were injured when the driver of an eastbound car missed the curve to the left just east of the Elwha River bridge on U.S. Highway 101 and rammed into an embankment.
Passenger Gina B. Lauritis, 46, of Corona, Calif., was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after the 7:16 p.m. Friday wreck, the State Patrol said. The hospital had no record of her on Saturday.
Another passenger — Janeth M. Ostowari, 44, of Tustin, Calif. — was listed in satisfactory condition at Olympic Medical Center (OMC) on Saturday.
Driver Thao D. Tran, 48, of Tustin, Calif., was treated and discharged from OMC, the nursing supervisor said Saturday.
The State Patrol said that Tran was cited for speeding.
The State Patrol said that Tran failed to negotiate the Highway 101 curve to the left near its intersection with Olympic Hot Springs Road and drove off to the right and hit a rock embankment.
All three women were trapped inside the car, a 2018 Toyota Rav 4, said Dan Huff, assistant chief of Clallam 2 Fire and Rescue, in a press release.
“Fire and medic crews, with the assistance of Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies, worked for 40 minutes to extricate, stabilize and transport all three occupants to OMC.” Lauritis was airlifted from there to Harborview, both Huff and the State Patrol said.
