PORT ANGELES — The Coast Guard rescued three people off a boat that had been slammed against the rocks on south Lopez Island.
A Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew rescued two adults and a 14-year-old from the boat at 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to Petty Officer Steve Strohmaier of the Coast Guard’s 13th District on Sunday.
Those aboard called for help at about 9 p.m. Saturday after their boat was pushed into the rocks by rough seas and they lost steering capacity, Strohmaier said.
They were able to get onto shore and were taken by Coast Guard helicopter to Friday Harbor, he said.
There were no medical concerns.
The vessel remained on the rocks on Sunday afternoon. A commercial company was en route to salvage it, Strohmaier said.
