SILVERDALE — A Port Angeles driver and her 10-year-old passenger were hospitalized after a fatal wreck in Kitsap County on Saturday, the State Patrol said.
Christy M. Smith, 79, of Poulsbo died after the 2003 Toyota Corolla she was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Beatriz B. Arakawa, 54, of Port Angeles at the interchange of state highways 3 and 303 in Silverdale, troopers said in a collision memo.
Arakawa and a 10-year-old boy, who was not named because he is a juvenile, were taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, the State Patrol said.
Arakawa was treated and released, according to the hospital.
Smith died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the State Patrol said.
Three other passengers in the Suburban — Florante Blue, 25, Harmony Arakawa, 31, and a 4-year-old boy, all from Port Angeles — were not injured in the crash at 4:07 p.m., troopers said.
The Toyota had accelerated into a turn, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Suburban, troopers said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Drugs or alcohol were not involved, the State Patrol said.
