The $333 Mega Millions jackpot in the lottery game played in Washington and 11 other states was won Friday night by two ticket holders.
But neither bought a winning ticket in this state.
Tickets bearing the winning numbers — 1, 17, 31, 37 and 54 with the Mega Ball 31 — were purchased in Bronx, N.Y., and San Gabriel, Calif.
In addition to Washington, New York and California, Mega Millions is played in Georgia, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Michigan, Maryland and Massachusetts.
Friday night’s $333 million was the second largest jackpot in U.S. history. Each winning ticket split more than $166 million, paid over 20 years.
The largest payout so far has been a $390 million jackpot shared by a New Jersey couple and a Georgia truck driver in 2007.
Had nobody won Friday night’s jackpot, Mega Millions for Tuesday would have rolled over to $430 million — history’s largest jackpot.
Instead, the cumulative jackpot starts over Tuesday with $12 million for anyone who hits the five numbers and Mega Ball number.
